The CHS Ski Team is a club sport at Clackamas High. We are a self-funded athletic program that competes in the Three Rivers League (TRL) of the Oregon Interscholastic Ski Racing Association (OISRA). OISRA is the statewide governing body of high school alpine ski racing.

The Ski Team was once a sport dominated by Clackamas High School with state championships in 1985, 1987 and 1988. The team then fell into obscurity until in 2002 when a parent decided to resurrect the program. Since that time there have been several parents involved in maintaining the program.

With the help of funding from the Clackamas High Official Organized Sports Endowment or better know as CHOOSE, we were able to purchase equipment for proper training, such as race gates and radio equipment.

The team begins dry land practice in late October and starts racing in January. Initially we practice four days a week, Monday through Thursday on dry land immediately after school for one hour. As soon as the ski resorts open we move our Thursday training to the mountain, this year at Mt. Hood Meadows. Friday is a rest day and our race days are on Saturdays at Timberline, Mt. Hood Meadows or Ski Bowl. The State Tournament is held following the end of league races at a different location each year with-in Oregon. The race season is over at the end of February and the State Meet is in early March.

Skiers compete individually and as a team for both boys and girls on a Varsity and Junior Varsity level. We race both slalom and giant slalom races, no down hill or super "G" events are held in high school racing.

What do you need to participate? You will need all personal ski equipment for alpine skiing, including ski's, ski boots, poles, helmet, goggles and appropriate clothing. You really do not need anything special except an approved helmet. Also, you pay for your ski passes; most team members purchase a season pass early on for a discounted price.

Since we are self funded there are costs to join the team which pay for league fees and our team coach. The

We do have lots of fun! No matter what your skiing abilities might be, you will become an improved skier! We do require a certain skill level to join the team, however most of our members began as very novice skiers. You do not need any prior racing expirence.
