This page is provided to answer many questions you might have.
If you have a question that is not mentioned here, please do not hesitate
to contact us directly.
Q. Where can I take my new or used vehicle for general service repairs?
A. Our service department will remain open
through the month of September. Because of the loss of certain technicians
there may be certain repairs we are no longer able to perform. Please call
and we are happy to discuss your options. Again we will recommend that you
use a factory facility for your maintenance and general repairs. You can
use any Ford, Lincoln or Mercury facility.
Q. I have a service contract and need to cancel. What do I do?
A. Please see the information page on this web site for details on
cancellations.
Q. I have been servicing my vehicle at Gary-Worth for
years, what can I do about getting my service records?
A. We will be occupying an office at the present
location for at least 5 years. A summary of your service history will
remain on file electronically and we will maintain copies of the actual
repair order on file for five years from the present date. Should you
require a copy please email us at garyworth@ipns.com
with a subject line title of "Service History Request."
Q. I just bought a new vehicle, where do I go for warranty repairs?
A. Your new vehicle warranty repairs can be performed by any Lincoln, Mercury
or Ford dealer. We would suggest that you consider using a dealer that is most
convenient to your needs. There are dealers located all around the Portland
area including Vancouver and Salem. You can find a dealer closest to you by
doing a locate at www.lincolnvehicles.com
or www.ford.com.
We are concerned that our
customers are taken care of during their warranty period and are happy to
personally discuss any questions you might have.
Q. With Beaverton announcing that they too will close their
Lincoln Mercury franchise will Ford replace the franchises at another location?
A. Lincoln Mercury has most recently announced
the opening of a new franchise location at Landmark Ford in Tigard off of
I-5. The two main Lincoln and Mercury locations in the Portland area are
now Courtsey Ford Lincoln Mercury on 122nd and SE Halsey and Landmark Ford
Lincoln Mercury in Tigard.
Q. Why did you send us a mailer telling us you would
remain open, and have now announced you are closing?
A. Our original intentions were to remain open as
a service facility and continue to sell top quality used cars and trucks.
Once we announced the termination of our new car franchise we were
approached buy several companies wanting our property. We were able to
structure a sale of the property that made more sense than to continue our
business plan.
It is important for our customers to understand that our
corporation will remain intact. As a part of our sale agreement Gary-Worth
Inc. will maintain an office space at the same location for many years. We
will retain our dealer license and also be able to handle company issues
such as service contract cancellations. You will be able to contact us at
the same phone number and address we have always used.
Q. Will you continue to sell cars and trucks?
A. At this point we are not sure. Our intention
is to liquidate our remaining inventory through the month of October.
After October we are going to take a break and see what opportunities
exist. There is always a possibility that we could obtain a different
franchise in the future and operate at a different location. Also there is
a possibility that we might sell a few used cars and trucks on a
"one-on-one" basis from our present location.
Q. Who is buying your property?
A. We have entered into a sales agreement with
J&M Body Shop of Milwaukie. J&M will be leasing the auto sales
portion of the dealership to another car dealer and run their body shop
operations in the service areas of the building.
Q. So what made you decided to do what you have done?
A. Gary-Worth Company is a very healthy business. We intend to remain
profitable and retain the equity that has been built for the past 49 years. That
was our primary reason for terminating the Lincoln Mercury franchise. There comes a point where a business must consider the income that it is
able to generate verses the costs involved in owning a franchise. Most people
would be amazed at the costs involved in having a new car franchise. Many of
these costs are paid directly to Ford and do not change with volume. For
example, just to order a new car there are fixed costs. A dealer must pay to
access the order information, print the information (at our time and expense)
and pay for the equipment and access to order the vehicle. In addition to Ford
there are many other costs to suppliers, venders and services providers.
Q. Why couldn't you make a profit with the Lincoln Mercury
franchise?
A.
Unfortunately most of the public does not realize the fabulous products that
Lincoln & Mercury is now building. In most cases the products are priced
less than the competition, the quality is much higher (including comparisons to
the top imports) and the styling is great. The franchise has reached a point
where the volume in the
northwest is just not high enough to support a single franchise dealer location
anymore.
